Floyd Mayweather Buys $20 Million Diamond District Building for His Grandson

Floyd Mayweather has added another glittering prize to his collection, this time in Manhattan’s Diamond District. The retired boxing champion has bought 1196 Sixth Avenue for a reported 20 million dollars, securing one of the busiest corners of West 47th Street. The property’s ground-floor jewelry exchange, already a magnet for shoppers and tourists, now carries the cachet of being owned by one of the most celebrated athletes of the past quarter-century.

The two-story building is impossible to miss. Street-level display cases sparkle with loose stones and finished pieces, while a vast glass-fronted billboard on the second floor commands the intersection’s skyline. Advertising agencies have long coveted the sign’s sightlines, and local brokers say it is among the highest-grossing billboards between Times Square and Rockefeller Center.

True to form, Mayweather turned the closing into a family milestone. On Christmas morning he signed the title over to his three-year-old grandson, Kentrall Gaulden Jr., instantly making the toddler the youngest property owner in the Diamond District. In a video shared with his 30-million-plus Instagram followers, Mayweather told the wide-eyed KJ, ‘You’re the first kid that owns a building in New York City’s Diamond District. We bought you a building.’ The moment ended with the young heir wrapping his arms around his grandfather.

Mayweather’s affection for 47th Street stretches back decades. ‘I used to shop in the diamond exchange as a young adult,’ he recalled in a statement. ‘I never imagined I would one day own this corner.’ Industry analysts note the purchase is more than sentimental. The jewelry exchange enjoys foot traffic that few corridors outside Times Square can match, and the rooftop sign alone could bring in seven figures annually.

The boxer’s real-estate portfolio already spans luxury homes in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Miami. Still, brokers say the New York acquisition stands out for its blend of nostalgia and steady cash flow. With the deed safely in his grandson’s name, Mayweather has given both his family and the Diamond District a story that will sparkle long after the holiday lights come down
